ROSS LAKE WEST SHORE HIKE
A Whatcom County hike
This section of the PNT crosses Ross Dam and continues along the west shore of Ross Lake in the woods to the Big Beaver area. There are views of the North Cascades and Ross Lake. There are beautiful vine maple forests and evergreen trees. A number of creeks are crossed. At the 6 mile point the hiker comes to Pierce Creek and Waterfall, a spectacular spot and good turn-around point. The Big Beaver Trail junction is at the 7.1 mile mark and the Big Beaver boat landing and camp is at 7.3 miles from the trailhead.
The trail is in the Ross Lake National Recreation Area.
Driving Instructions: From Sedro-Woolley drive east on State Highway 20 to the large Ross Dam parking area near milepost 134. Highway 20 is usually open to this point year round.
Data: The one-way distance to the Big Beaver camp is 7.3 miles. Total elevation gain into and out from Big Beaver is about 2100 feet. SWITMO rates it as moderate.
