DECEPTION PASS STATE PARK---Rosario Beach to Lighthouse Point and Back

This 4.3 mile hike is in Skagit County. It utilizes that section of the PNT (Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail) that parallels Highway 20 south of Pass Lake.

NOTE: It is recommended that the hiker purchase a map of Deception Pass State Park. This map shows all of the trails and is easy to read. Maps can be purchased at the Park Office, 41020 State Route 20. The Park office is located on the Whidbey Island side of Deception Pass Bridge. It is on the east side of SR 20 several blocks north of the stop light at the intersection of the Cornet Bay and Cranberry Lake Park entrance roads.

Data: This hike uses current trails in Deception Pass State Park. A Washington State Discover Pass is required to park anywhere in the Park. SWITMO rates this as an easy to moderate hike. SWITMO helps maintain trails in Deception Pass State Park.

Driving Instructions:

From the intersection of Highway 20 and Rosario Road (near Pass Lake, on the Skagit County Side of Deception Pass Bridge) go westerly on Rosario Road. In about one mile, go LEFT, downhill on Cougar Gap Road. At the low spot in Cougar Gap Road, turn LEFT onto Rosario Beach Road and drive to the Park entrance and parking. If the Park is closed, park alongside the road.

Hike Instructions:

  • Walk into the Park, following the trail. Go right and hike the trail around Rosario Head.

  • Then walk the Bowman Bay Rosario Beach Trail to Bowman Bay.

  • Walk up the entrance road that leads to Rosario Road, Pass Lake, and Highway 20.

  • Very close to Highway 20, find the PNT on the right and follow it until you come to a well-defined trail going off on the right.

  • Go RIGHT on this connector trail. The trail one meets is the main trail coming from Bowman Bay. Go LEFT and then in a very short distance go RIGHT, downhill toward the beach.

  • Follow the beach trail to Lighthouse Point and follow the main trail around Lighthouse Point.

  • When ready to leave Lighthouse Point, return the way you came and take the main trail back to Bowman Bay.

  • Walk along Bowman Bay toward the Campground.

  • Find the Bowman Bay Rosario Beach Trail and take it back to Rosario and the car.
